LONG HORNED BEETLE FAMILY (Cerambycidae)
Description
This beetle is about ½ inches long. It has tan elytra and has the long antenna characteristic of this family. Most of the beetles in this subfamily have a distinctive shape, broad at the shoulders, tapering toward the neck and toward the rear of the abdomen.
Occurrence
Found on flowers. We expect it to be common at Fontenelle Forest.
Comments
Many longhorns are serious agricultural pests, as their larvae bore into wood. This beetle is a member of the flower long horn beetle subfamily Lepturinae. They are mostly active during the day visiting flowers to feed on pollen.
