Description
This beetle is about ½ inch long. It is yellow with black markings on the elytra. It has pale antenna. Members of this genus have a distinctive slender-bodied appearance. They are broad shouldered and their wing covers taper in back. Their faces slant forward and are nearly vertical.
Occurrence
Members of this subfamily are mostly active during the day. Adults of this species are found in flowers in deciduous woods from May to August. Larvae feed on a number of trees and shrubs. Their occurrence in Fontenelle Forest is not known.
Comments
This species is one of several members of the subfamily Lepturinae or flower longhorns. This species is one of several nearly identical eastern species. Members of this genus breed in a variety of trees, usually hardwoods and are often common on wild roses.
