Description
This snail grows to about one inch in diameter. It has a white lip as shown in image "D", and reddish spiral bands, which are diagnostic. These bands can also be seen on the empty shells (F,G). Immature snails (C) have an open "belly button" (umbilicus). In mature snails the umbilicus is covered by a callus (D).
Occurrence
These snails are common in Fontenelle Forest and presumed to be common in Neale Woods as well. They are most likely seen in wet habitat, especially the hollows, where they climb low vegetation or browse through moss.
Comments
Their common and scientific names reflect the spiral bands of this species.
