Description
The shells of these small air-breathing snails grow to a little more than 1/2 inch long. While living, the thin shells reflect the mottled reddish brown to gray color of the animal inside. Identification down to species level is difficult, and certainly not possible in the field.
Occurrence
These snails are common in moist habitat, especially in the hollows of Fontenelle Forest - they have not recently been surveyed in Neale Woods. They are often seen on low vegetation in late summer and early fall. In winter the shells one may find are bleached white, thin and fragile (not shown).
