LONG HORNED BEETLE FAMILY (Cerambycidae)
Description
This beetle is about ½ to 3/5 of an inch long. It is variable in color and pattern but usually is light brown in color with light yellow bands on the elytra. Flower long horn beetles have a face that points forward almost vertically.
The antennae are black and the legs tan to reddish brown.
Occurrence
Common in the eastern U.S. Its occurrence in Fontenelle Forest is not known. Adults are usually found from May to August on flowers of the parsley family. Larvae live in decaying oak, hickory and other hardwoods.
Comments
Belongs to the subfamily Lepturinae or flower longhorns. Mostly active during the day, visiting flowers to feed on pollen.
