Description
The Black-bordered Lemon Moth has a wingspan of 3/4 of an inch. The forewing is pale to bright yellow with a black border on the outer edge. There are 2 small blackish spots on each forewing. There is usually no visible postmedian line, but occasionally there is a pinkish line across the forewing. The hindwing is yellow with light grayish-brown outer shading. The antennae are long and dark.
Occurrence
The frequency of occurrence of this moth at Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods is not known. The individual shown here was photographed at Fontenelle Nature Center in mid-July. It is attracted to lights.
Comments
The larval host plants are crabgrass and morning glories. Adults fly from May to September. It was formerly in the genus Thioptera. There are 5 species in the genus Marimatha in North America.
