SPOTTED GRASS MOTH

Description
The Spotted Grass Moth has a wingspan of approximately .75 inch. The forewing is straw-colored with a large elliptical brown blotch and light brown curving PM line and zigzag Am line. The hindwing is yellow. The small larva is green with long, silky hairs that are longer towards the rear. There is a white subdorsal stripe that narrows over the thorax. The head is yellowish and rounded. It grows to 5/8 inch long.
Occurrence
The frequency of occurrence of this moth at Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods is not known. One individual was photographed at Camp Brewster in late April. The adults are attracted to artificial lights.
Comments
The larval foodplants are grasses. The Spotted Grass Moth is in the Rivulinae sub-family.
