Dichagyris grotei

OWLET MOTH FAMILY (Noctuidae)


Description

The forewing length of Dichagyris grotei is about .75 inch.  The forewing is brown with a dark gray apex and a series of thin black lines and marks.  The black AM and PM lines are partially double.  The hindwing is whitish at the base with a wide gray marginal area, dark veins and a two-toned fringe.



Occurrence

The frequency of occurrence is not known.  The individual shown here was photographed at Neale Woods on September 11, 2012 coming to artificial lights.



Comments

The larvae eat herbaceous plants of the Asteraceae family especially False Boneset (Kuhnia sp.). This species belongs to the Cutworm or Dart Moth subfamily (Noctuinae).
