Description
Norman’s Quaker is about 3/4 inch long. It can be pale tan, dark brown or reddish brown and has a straight pale-edged Antemedial line. The pale Postmedial line curves under the reniform spot and angles up on both sides to touch the costa. The inner fourth of the reniform spot is solid black. The hindwing is white basally and shades to gray distally. The caterpillar is brownish on top and tan on the sides. The head is shiny brown with 2 dark spots on each lobe. It grows to about 2.5 inches.
Occurrence
The frequency of occurrence in this area is not known. It has been photographed at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center in late April 2015. The adults come to lights.
Comments
The larvae eat the leaves of Ash, Cherry, Oak, Plum and Willow. There is one generation a year. The species overwinters as a pupa. Normani is the only species in the genus Crocigrapha in the world.
