Description
The Brown-lined Owlet has a total length of .50 inch. The forewings and hindwings are straw-colored and lightly peppered with brown scales. The brown parallel antemedial and postmedial lines are strongly angled before reaching the costa. The caterpillar is dull brown with whitish narrow cross-bands and a dark brown mid-dorsal stripe.
Occurrence
The frequency of occurrence in this area is not known. It has been photographed once at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center in mid-August 2015.
Comments
This moth is in the Litter Moth Subfamily (Herminiinae). The larvae eat both live and dead grasses and clover. Another common name is Two-lined Owlet.
